Back to the Basics
Acts 4:32-35
Thesis:
To return to the basics of our Christian life.
Introduction:
1. Everyone is busy. Have we time for important things?
2. We all have a need to return to the basics of who we are, what we believe and the
reasons for practicing what we do.
Discussion:
Return to the basics of…
I. FAITH.
We are united in a common purpose (1 Cor. 15:1-4).
II. CHURCH.
We belong to a family (Eph. 2:19-22; 4:11-16).
III. SERVICE
A. We are dedicated to each other because of our faith.
B. Matthew 7:12 – The Golden Rule
5 Rules for Life - Which one governs your life?
1) The Golden Rule
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
2) The Silver Rule
“Do not do unto others as you would not have them do unto you.”
3) The Bronze Rule
“Do unto others as they do unto you.”
(A mixture of “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” and “one good turn
deserves another.”)
4) The Iron Rule
“Do unto others before they do unto you.”
(“The one who has the gold makes the rules.”)
5) The Tin Rule
“Do unto others as others relate to you.”
(“Cozy up to those above you, and intimidate those below you.”)
It’s the Golden rule for superiors and the Iron rule for inferiors.
See Matthew 18:23-25
C. Proverbs 18:24 – “…must himself be friendly.”
What do we learn?
1. Make time for God—De-clutter your lives.
2. Emphasize faith and family each day.
3. Help others around you. Start in your Care and Share Group.
Conclusion:
1. Jesus wants us to live for him everyday.
2. It is time to return to what matters in life.
