How To Be A Two-Faced Christian
Text: Matthew 6:16-18
Thesis: To help Christians avoid hypocrisy.
Introduction:
1. There are advantages & disadvantages to being two-faced.
2. What does the Bible say about hypocrisy?
a. "Hypocrite" (Mt. 7:3-5)
b. "Hypocrites" (Mt. 15:7-9; 23:13, 15, 23, 25, 27, 29)
c. "Double-minded man" (Jam. 1:8; 4:8-9)
d. "Double-tongued man" (1 Tim. 3:8-9)
e. "The Christian who hears but doesn’t do" (Jam. 1:23-25)
f. "The believer who blasphemes" (Rom. 2:17-24)
Discussion:
We can be a two-faced Christian by…
I. Maintaining multiple standards for living (Rom. 2:17-24).
A. Are you a servant of light walking in darkness?
B. Do you teach others but not yourself?
C. Do you condemn stealing but deceive others?
D. Do you frown on adultery but look for ways to look with lust after others?
E. Do you despise the thought of idolatry but rob God?
II. Emphasizing external matters over internal matters (Mt. 23:13, 15, 23, 25, 27, 29).
A. Are you guilty of pre-qualifying people for salvation (Mt. 23:13)?
B. Do you add new requirements to discipleship (Mt. 23:15)?
C. Do you neglect weightier, more important matters (Mt. 23:23)?
D. Are you full of greed and corruption (Mt. 23:25)?
E. Do care more for externals that internals (Mt. 23:27)?
F. Do you forget our “less comely members” (Mt. 23:29)?
Conclusion:
1. The church doesn’t need more hypocrites.
2. God wants to rid hypocrisy from your life.
