Standing On the Promises: Salvation's Author
Hebrews 2:1-4

Thesis: To show how Jesus is the foundation of our faith.

Introduction:

1. Scripture always warns against unbelief, complacency and apathy.
2. Since Jesus is the perfect mediator, who would rebel against him?
3. Jesus is the captain of our salvation.


Discussion:

Jesus is our captain…

I. Who commands our ship (vv. 5-12).
A. He controls the world (v. 5).
B. He is prince among men (v. 6).
C. All things are subject to him (v. 8).
D. He is crowned with glory and honor (v. 9).
E. He tasted death for humanity (v. 9).
F. He is the author of salvation (v. 10).
G. He calls us brethren (v. 11).
H. His name should be published abroad (v. 12).

II. Warning us not to drift away (vv. 1-4).
A. Since God speaks to Jesus (1:2) we should listen to him (2:1; Mt. 3:17; 17:5).
B. Angels’ warnings brought due punishment (2:2).
C. Jesus brings a greater gospel with a heavier punishment (2:2-3).
D. How shall we escape if we neglect? (2:3; Mt. 22:5)
E. This greater gospel is trustworthy (2:4).

III. Who helps us weather the storms (vv. 13-18).
A. Christians suffer, but so did Christ (v. 9).
B. Jesus not only suffered for you, he suffered like you (v. 14; Heb. 4:15; 1 Pet. 2:21ff.).

Conclusion:

1. Jesus is the author of our salvation.
2. We should listen to him.
