Romans 12:1-2

Let us consider…

I. Our understanding of godliness.
A. It isn’t “God-like” or “goodness,” but piety.
B. Godly is like “soberly” and “righteously” (Tit. 2:12).

II. The significance of godliness.
Godliness makes…
A. Godliness makes religion come alive (2 Tim. 3:5).
B. Godliness covers life and heart (2 Cor. 7:10).
C. Godliness is the essence of the Christian graces.
(Add to your faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, and then godliness.)

III. The ways to godliness.
A. Look to Jesus, the epitome of godliness (1 Tim. 3:16ff).
B. We must train ourselves in godly ways (1 Tim. 4:7-8).
C. Godliness contains sound words/teachings (1 Tim. 6:3ff).

IV. The application of godliness.
A. Dress appropriately (1 Tim. 2:10).
B. Avoid silly myths and tales (1 Tim. 4:7).
C. Believe/Teach God’s doctrine (1 Tim. 6:3).
D. Expect suffering (2 Tim. 3:12).
E. Stop sinning on purpose (2 Cor. 7:9-11).
