What To Look For In A Church
Ephesians 4:11-16
Thesis: To see what church God wants (and what we want).
Introduction:
1. What do you look for in a church?
2. People have various kinds of qualities that they use to qualify if a church is good or
not?
3. What qualities does God use?
Discussion:
Let us consider.....
I. What kind of a church don't we want?
1 Corinthians provides some negative characteristics:
A. Divided (1:10, 12)
B. Carnal (3:1-3)
C. Prideful (5:2, 6)
D. Inconsiderate (8:20; 11:20-21)
E. Puffed up (12:31-13:1, 4; 14:34-35)
F. Ignorant (15:1, 16-20)
II. What kind of church do we want?
A. Sound (2 Tim. 1:13; 1 Tim. 1:10; 2 Tim. 4:3)
B. Friendliness (Prov. 18:24; Rom. 16:16)
C. Fellowship (1 Pet. 4:9 ESV “Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.”)
D. Ministry-related (2 Cor. 9:12)
E. Active (Col. 3:23-24)
F. Useful (2 Tim. 4:11)
We must ask “Is Cedar Grove this kind of church?”
III. What kind of Christian should I be?
A. Caring (Lk. 10:25ff)
B. Graceful (Mt. 7:1-5)
C. Selfless (Gal. 2:20)
D. Giving (2 Cor. 8:1-5)
E. Edifying (Eph. 4:13, 16)
Conclusion: What Do We Learn?
1. Cedar Grove is a wonderful church. There are many great things for which to be
grateful.
2. Each Christian needs to put there all into the programs of ministry here.
